Jeff Stevenson

Hammond B3, Keyboards

Who I Am

Jeff started playing piano at the age of seven while living in Cape Town, South Africa and that pursuit became an immediate and unstoppable passion that would never end. Since then he’s played in everything from professional 18 piece Jazz Big Bands led by drummer Buddy Rich, Rock & Roll bands led by Val Fuentes from Its a Beautiful Day, Country bands led by Sonoma County sensation Shannon Rider, 50’s Americana/Funk/Hard Rock bands led by Chris Rovetti, and multiple small group Jazz Trios. He met Todd Bugee in 2013 together they and almost instantly formed the The Melt band.  After perfecting his keyboard rig and getting his first B3 & 147 Leslie that he carts un-apologetically to each gig (200lbs of fun his band mates get to help him with), his influences quickly became  Papa John Grows, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, The Meters, Booker T, Robert Walter, and several other funky players. He carts his Leslie Organ speaker for his B3 everywhere he plays, as he refuses to settle for inferior sounding, non-retro style instruments. He’s been extremely fortunate to recently study the Hammond B3 with John Medesky of Medeski Martin Wood as well as getting crazy insight on tunes from keyboard player Alan Evans of Soulive.  His life-long pursuit of finding the perfect mix of the Hammond B3 instrument matched with phenomenal players and crafting original music has finally been realized with the band, The Melt.
